5 steps · Your own pace
Find something to listen to on Spotify
Step 1 of 5: Open the genuine service
Use the Spotify app from your device’s official store, or its official website. Sign in to your own account. If you are asked to choose a plan, read the terms and look for the free option where available.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 2 of 5: Search for familiar audio
Find Search and type an artist, album or podcast name. Check whether a result is a song, playlist, album or episode. A playlist contains several items and may include recordings you did not search for.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 3 of 5: Start playback
Tap or click the available Play control. Depending on your plan, songs may play in a different order or some choices may be limited. Do not subscribe simply because the button layout differs from a guide.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 4 of 5: Practise pause and sound
Use Pause to stop playback, then Play to resume. Adjust the phone or computer volume slowly. Open the Now Playing view if you need the current title or playback controls; remember where audio is being sent.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 5 of 5: Save something for later
Use the Add or Save control beside a favourite item, then look in Your Library. Saving to a library is different from downloading for offline use. Music downloads usually require Premium; check the current plan before expecting that feature.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Take your time. Next marks this step done.
You’ve finished this guide.
Every step is complete. You can come back and practise again whenever you like.
Your small practice task.
Search for familiar audio, play a short part, pause it and save it to your library.
Completing the guide records your progress here; it does not check your device settings.
A common question.
Will music use my mobile data?
Streaming uses internet data. Wi-Fi or eligible offline downloads can reduce mobile use; download availability depends on your plan and content.
