Connect a Samsung phone to home Wi-Fi

Home Wi-Fi connects your phone to your router's internet service. This lesson uses a network you own or have permission to join. Read the network name carefully before connecting. Samsung menus can differ by model and One UI version, so use Settings search if necessary.

Before you start

  • Have your home network name and Wi-Fi password ready, often printed on the router unless changed.
  • Sit near your router for this first attempt and unlock your configured phone.

Step 1 of 6: Open the Wi-Fi page

Open Settings, tap Connections, then Wi-Fi. If you cannot see Connections, search Settings for Wi-Fi and select its settings page. You do not need Mobile Hotspot for this task.

Step 2 of 6: Switch Wi-Fi on

Check that Wi-Fi is enabled. If it is off, tap its switch once. Wait a moment for nearby network names to appear rather than tapping repeatedly while the list loads.

Step 3 of 6: Choose your home network

Match the name in the list to your router label or the details from the person who manages your network. Tap that name. Ask them to confirm it if several similar names appear.

Step 4 of 6: Enter its password

Type the Wi-Fi password when asked. Check capitals, numbers and symbols carefully. This is the network password, rather than your phone-unlock code. Correct typing mistakes before moving on.

Step 5 of 6: Connect

Tap Connect and wait. Your network should become the current connection on the Wi-Fi page. If asked about automatic reconnection, enable it for your own trusted home network if you want the phone to remember it.

Step 6 of 6: Check and practise finding it

Open your browser and load a familiar website. A Wi-Fi connection alone does not guarantee the router has internet access. Return to the Wi-Fi page and identify your network once more before finishing.

Try it for yourself

Your small practice task.

Find your connected network in Settings, then open one familiar website to check internet access.

Completing the guide records your progress here; it does not check your device settings.

A common question.

What if the password is rejected?

Recheck the network name and ask the network owner to confirm the current password. Router labels may be out of date after a password change. Do not change the router's settings just to complete this lesson.
