Print a document from your phone

iPhone printing commonly uses AirPrint; Android uses a print service. The printer and app must support the chosen route. Wi-Fi alone does not guarantee compatibility.

Before you start

  • A printer with paper and suitable ink or toner
  • Phone and printer connected to the same home network

Step 1 of 5: Check printer support

Read the printer’s model information or manufacturer’s official help. For iPhone, check AirPrint support. For Android, check the built-in printing service or the manufacturer’s official app. Do not install software from a random search advert.

Step 2 of 5: Open the item

Open the document, photo or webpage you want to print. Check that it is the correct version. If the app cannot print, use a supported app or save the document as a PDF before opening it.

Step 3 of 5: Choose your phone’s route

iPhone: tap Share or the app’s action menu, then find Print. Android: look in the app’s menu, sometimes under Share, for Print. Menu positions differ, so use the app’s help if the option is missing.

Step 4 of 5: Select and check

Choose the actual printer, then review paper size, page range, colour and copies. On Android, search Settings for Printing if no service is enabled. If the printer is missing, confirm both devices use the same network.

Step 5 of 5: Print one page first

Print a single page to check the layout before sending a long document. Retrieve confidential pages promptly. If nothing prints, check the printer screen rather than repeatedly submitting the same job.

Try it for yourself

Your small practice task.

Print one non-sensitive test page and check the text size.

Completing the guide records your progress here; it does not check your device settings.

A common question.

Can I print by Bluetooth?

Only when the manufacturer supports that route. Standard AirPrint uses a network connection; follow your particular printer’s official instructions.
