5 steps · Your own pace
Plan a route with Google Maps
Step 1 of 5: Search for the destination
Open Maps and enter the place name or address. Read the full address in the result, including the town. Several businesses can share a name; choosing the wrong result creates a route to the wrong place.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 2 of 5: Choose Directions
Tap Directions and check the starting point. Use Your location only if its marker is reasonably accurate, or type another starting address. Location accuracy can be poor indoors, underground or between tall buildings.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 3 of 5: Select the right travel mode
Choose walking, driving, public transport or another available mode. Read any departure time, interchange, fare or route warning shown. A walking route and a driving route can be very different; do not interchange them.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 4 of 5: Review the route before leaving
Look at the distance, estimated time and key turns or changes. Choose another shown route if it better fits your needs. Live transport information and opening hours are not guarantees; check important arrangements with the operator.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 5 of 5: Start and finish deliberately
For supported navigation, tap Start when ready. Keep the phone secure and avoid handling it while driving or crossing roads. Follow the law and local signs. Stop navigation using its close or exit control when you arrive.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Take your time. Next marks this step done.

A common question.
Can I navigate without internet?
Downloaded areas offer some offline features, but live traffic and some travel modes may be unavailable. Prepare and test the required map before travelling.
