Decide whether Amazon Prime is useful for you

Amazon Prime is a paid membership with eligible delivery and other benefits. It is separate from having an ordinary Amazon account. Benefits and prices can change, so use your account’s current membership page before deciding to join or renew.

Before you start

  • Sign in through Amazon’s official website or app.
  • Have a rough idea of how often you order and which benefits you would use.

Step 1 of 5: Read the current offer

Open the Prime membership page and check the price, billing interval and trial end date if offered. Read what is included in your region rather than assuming every Amazon service is covered.

Step 2 of 5: Compare it with ordinary shopping

Look at a few typical orders and their delivery options. Ask whether you need the faster delivery enough to justify a recurring membership alongside any other benefits.

Step 3 of 5: Distinguish included and extra services

Prime Video can include a selected catalogue, but rentals, purchases and add-on subscriptions can cost extra. Kindle books and other services also have their own inclusion rules.

Step 4 of 5: Record the renewal

Before starting a trial or paid plan, put the billing date and amount in your calendar. Joining usually authorises automatic charging after the trial or membership period.

Step 5 of 5: Manage it from your account

Use Manage Prime Membership to review renewal or cancellation options. Follow confirmation screens and keep the final confirmation rather than assuming closing the page ended the plan.

Try it for yourself

Your small practice task.

Locate your membership status and write down any next billing date.

Completing the guide records your progress here; it does not check your device settings.

A common question.

Do I need Prime to buy from Amazon?

No. An ordinary account can place orders. Compare the delivery costs and options shown at checkout with the membership cost before choosing.
