5 steps · Your own pace
Get a printer working with a Chromebook
Step 1 of 5: Check the printer itself
Turn the printer on and read its display. Clear a paper or ink warning according to its manual. Try the printer’s own test page if available; failure here points to the printer rather than the Chromebook.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 2 of 5: Confirm compatibility and connection
Check Google’s compatible-printer information and the manufacturer’s ChromeOS instructions. For network printing, connect the printer and Chromebook to the same home network. A guest network may prevent devices from finding each other.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 3 of 5: Look for the printer
On the Chromebook, select the time, then Settings. Under Device, find Printers and scanners and the printing options. Save an available supported printer. Wording may change slightly with ChromeOS updates.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 4 of 5: Select it in the print window
Open a simple webpage and press Ctrl + P. Next to Destination, select the list and See more if needed. Choose your physical printer rather than Save to PDF, then print one page.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Step 5 of 5: Use the supported fallback
If discovery fails, try a supported USB connection or follow the manufacturer’s manual setup instructions. Use its exact address and settings; do not guess. Restart the printer and Chromebook before contacting manufacturer support.
✓ Step complete. You can practise it again.
Take your time. Next marks this step done.

Every step is complete. You can come back and practise again whenever you like.
Your small practice task.
Open Ctrl + P and identify your printer without printing a long file.
Completing the guide records your progress here; it does not check your device settings.
A common question.
Should I use Google Cloud Print?
No. That older service was discontinued. Use ChromeOS printing and current instructions for your printer.
